Bright Run - September 9th

Bright Run is celebrating its 10th anniversary! The Bright Run is a non-competitive, family friendly 1km/5km walk or run which is held annually, the first Saturday after Labour Day, along the Dundas Valley Conservation Area rail trail. Each year over 1000 participants of all ages and stages come together to support local breast cancer research being conducted at the Juravinski Cancer Centre.

Since inception in 2008, over 15 research studies have been funded with the over $3 million raised. What makes the Bright Run unique? Every dollar raised by our participants goes directly and entirely to breast cancer research. The event is organized and hosted by a small volunteer committee of Juravinski Cancer Centre medical professionals and a few very passionate community members. There is no minimum fundraising requirement to participate. Every dollar raised here, stays here.

HMECU employees are attending the Bright Run for this milestone anniversary and are pleased to be a part of such a great event. We look forward to the next 10 years of this great event!

Mental Health Morning at St Joes - October 5th

St. Joseph's Healthcare knows that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental illness or addiction in their lifetime, and that each and every one of us is touched by it in some way. That’s why they are striving to provide even better care for their patients and their families since becoming responsible for the region’s mental health and addiction programs almost 20 years ago.

Opened in February 2014, the Margaret & Charles Juravinski Centre for Integrated Healthcare embodies St. Joseph’s commitment to eradicating the stigma around mental illness by embracing holistic care and enhancing research into the causes and treatments for mental illness and addiction. It is an internationally recognized Centre and the most innovative facility of its kind in Canada.

HMECU is a proud sponsor of this event. Our support for St. Joseph's Healthcare and St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation continues as does the great work that they do throughout the community. Their constant strive for innovation and unwavering support to the population is extremely admirable. Mental health affects everyone and it is our duty to support the programs that help our community.

International Credit Union Day - October 19th

International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements. It is a day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to the movement, recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the great work that credit unions are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more involved. Credit unions and associations throughout the world celebrate the day with fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics and parades.

HMECU will be celebrating this day at all of our locations and we invite all of our members to come out and celebrate with us!
