Who We Are

In 1936, a group of 8 municipal employees got together in the Public Works office of the old City Hall and held the first annual meeting of the Hamilton Civic Employees' Cooperative Society, later to be renamed Hamilton Municipal Employees' Credit Union in 1940 when we received our provincial charter.

Now known as Healthcare and Municipal Employees' Credit Union (HMECU), we have grown into a thriving financial institution with more than 12,000  members and over $160 million in on and off balance sheet assets. For an initial, refundable membership share of $25.00, HMECU provides exceptional personal service and convenience.

Backed by sound management practices and a democratically elected Board of Directors, our credit union offers a comprehensive range of financial options. Profits from HMECU operations are returned to our members in the form of dividends and improved services.

For over 80 years, HMECU has serviced the employees and families of healthcare and local government, and will continue to do so in the cities of Hamilton, Brantford and Burlington.
